BOTH SIDES NOW: OCTOBER 4th, 2014

Frum-Alter debate Obama’s ISIS strategy of “containment”. Jonathan regards policy as “least bad” option while Frum prefers that we ignore ISIS but instead put all our chips in on a non-nuclear Iran. Also, David argues that the GOP will modernize because the combination of boomers’ economic squeeze and ethnic change will stampede many to the Right; Alter, however, thinks that unlikely so long as right-wing media dumbs down the base. Also: Mitt redux? Occupy Central shows OWS’s continuing influence? Is Obama unusually candid for a POTUS about mistakes — and is that a good or bad thing?

  1. I think Frum is a bit over the top when he says Obama was deliberately targeting Bush with his 10 year comment. The pattern was 100 years, fifty years and ten years. I don’t think he was tarfetting Wilson, (or was it Taft), Johnson.
